Heroes of Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Music is about FREEDOM, music is also about love, friendship, sharing, caring, it's about GIVING

Music sets people FREE, that is what attracts people to music, Artists that are GREAT have been through very difficult times, they were refined into something better, and they survived,

The best music that I've ever heard is from Africa or Jamaica, trust me, the people of Jamaica were freed from slavery in 1838, and they know what it is to "JAM" in Jamaica, They know the difference between being captive and being free, Music is about bringing people TOGETHER, Unfortunately music has become a product in mainstream culture, instead of a form of expression, and no matter what I respect and love ALL musicians, and encourage them to be themselves, and to just have fun!

Modern Radical Audio Visual Experience or Rave Culture is rooted in the Rastafari movement including Ethiopia and then Jamaica and then the career of Bob Marley

I know Bob Marley, even though I've never met him, you can still know somebody through their music

Robert Nesta Marley February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981 was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is the most widely known performer of reggae music, and is famous for popularising the genre outside Jamaica. A faithful Rastafari, Marley is regarded by many as a prophet of the religion.

Marley is best known for his ska, rocksteady, and reggae songs, which include the hits "I Shot the Sheriff", "No Woman, No Cry", "Three Little Birds", "Exodus", "Could You Be Loved", "Jammin", "Redemption Song", and "One Love". His posthumous compilation album Legend (1984) is the best-selling reggae album ever, with sales of more than 12 million copies,

If Bob Marley were alive today, he would probably be on the turn-tables or a Mac, making loving sounds, and drowning in Joy,

MY LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.....HE'S MY BEST FRIEND! Genesis 1:11 "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so." Genesis 3:18 "... thou shalt eat the herb of the field." Proverbs 15:17 "Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith."[1] Psalms 104:14 "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man."

Seattle Music

Seattle Music and Internet Radio

Essay By Jon Juan Francisco

As a former broadcast radio DJ, broadcast promoter, and Producer, I know that music that appeals to a broad cross-over audience is key to bringing a gathering or community together. You've got to play to the crowd! Just ask Seattle DJ Donald Glaude.

Jon Juan Francisco's Music Steely Dan is an excellent example of a crossover band on the radio. Steely Dan is probably on more radio play-lists than any other band.

I like all kinds of music, as long as it is good music. Music that has progressive build ups is what I like best.

CBS Country Music Artist Michael Peterson was the first awesome musician that I new, He went to church with me, and I met him when I was in elementary school. He was my first mentor in music, Michael Peterson is a great guy and very, very, talented I've seen him thousands of times, he has such an amazing stage presence, and is such a genuine person.

I visited one of the worlds first internet radio stations, it was called groovetech.com, now defunct, back in 1998 or early 1999, 360BPM and DJ Nitsuj and Zacharia brought me there. They were two of the DJ's who would spin a non-stop 24 hour a day live data feed out to cyberspace. It was located a couple of doors down the side street from what is currently NEUMOS on Capital Hill.

I grew up in the Seattle Area, and used to attend shows at the Redmond YMCA, the roots of The Vera Project, and a venue for local Seattle area all ages shows. I recall seeing the bands Sunny Day Real Estate, Poor Old Lu, Gas Huffer, and The Posies many times, and what could have been one of Modest Mouse's first gigs. That is where I also saw quite a few successful Seattle area musicians start their careers.

I produced my first concert at 18 years old at my high school at 7pm, two bands, and more people showed up than went to school there. One of the bands won the Battle of the Bands in Seattle later that year, and two of the musicians in the other band. Umma Gumma, happened to be talented Bassist Jeremy Lightfoot, and World Class Drummer Kevin "KJ" Sawka

Kevin and I were classmates growing up. That concert I threw in High School was my first experience promoting an event, and the first Big OUTDOOR gig for Kevin Sawka.

Shortly after that I won tickets to see Goldie open up for Jane's Addiction by getting second place in a creative writing contest.

Well, back in the Day around 1997-1999, I used to kick it with Nitsuj and DJ Zacharia quite a bit. This girl I knew was seeing Nitsuj back then. This was back when they were playing their sets at Vinylized, now defunct. Vinylized was under the Seattle-Viaduct next to the old OK Hotel.

Sometimes we were the only people to show up at some of their early shows. In early 2006, Zach's sold me some of his old wax.

I'm old school in the 360BPM scene, and unfortunately have only made it to a few dozen 360BPM shows in the last five years. BUY THEIR MUSIC - SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL DJ

I also went to a lot of parties and events back in the day, including USC-Anniversaries 1,2 and 3 also Freak-Night 1,2, and 3.

I promoted the heck out of Zacharia and Nitsuj back then, and any other 360bpm events that I found out about. By promoting I meant that I invited all of my friends. I had about 8-15 friends that would meet up week after week. The music was stimulating, and I loved driving around listening to it. It's music that creates an environment, it's essentially electronic jazz. It was just some chunky bass beats and ambient Jungle sounds, or progressive electronic house or trance music.

At the same time I was a producer at KBSG FM Seattle with legendary Seattle radio DJ Danny Holiday,

Aside from being one of the top guys in Seattle Radio, over the years, Danny Holiday had worked for several promoters, including ABC Records, CBS-Columbia, 20th Century Fox, and A and M. He promoted and arranged tours for the Carpenters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chicago, the Beach Boys, Joe Cocker, Andy Williams, and Johnny Cash.

Danny would have worked with Jimi Hendrix and Cream, and he was brave enough to volunteer during Vietnam.

I was the studio producer and intern that was mentioned in the newscasts and in the newspapers about Danny Holiday's final broadcast on KBSG. I worked a lot that night!

After working with Danny, I worked with The Italian-American, Broadcaster known to millions as JOE COOPER as Seattle radio personality on KJR, KING, and KOMO, Musician/Recording Artist (guitarist/singer)JOEY GEE AND THE COME-ONS and other bands, and also Mike Ford, MatchAmerica.com Founder Scott Phillips, a promotions director who later became the national Marketing Director for the Hooters Food Chain, Keith Abrams, and Current Seahawks-Seagals Scout Mark Christopher.

Those Guys kicked ass and were very great to work with. Joe has some stories about Jimi Hendrix that you wouldn't believe, he taught me so much about music, Mike Ford encouraged me to pursue the internet as an emerging media outlet.

I also spent hours with Marina Rockinger, and Scott Phillips, Jim Broadbent, and Nick Reynolds, it really was great times and lots of fun, fun, fun, and as lot of late hours

In January 2006 I attend the KJR wake for the late-great Legendary International Disc Jockey Lan Roberts.the wake, a producer from King TV let me prep the King TV video-grapher. Quite a few of my Seattle Radio and TV heroes were there, including THE MAN who paved the road for Seattle Music, Mr. Pat O'Day. That was fun meeting those guys, however the lighting in that place wasn’t very ideal for the shot. John Maynard and Pat Cashman were also there.

Back in the late 1990's, KBSG was still across the street from THE END-Seattle. Both Stations were owned by Entercom at the time, so I ran into and had conversations with KNDD FM Programming Director Phil Manning a few times. I even passed a few drum n' bass or punk rock tapes to KNDD FM music director Marco Collins.

My friend Ryan threw a few small punk shows at a rented out church in the U-District, at one of those concerts, it just happened to be the Seattle group, the Blood Brothers, second show ever. I told them about getting play on KNDD's The Young and the Restless on Sunday Evenings. After that, those guys played a lot of Vera Project shows.

While I worked at KBSG, I also had a radio show called Ultimate Funk Radio (Now De-FUNKED).

Ultimate Funk Radio was on 91.3 KBCS, Bellevue Community Colleve, and included the ORIGINAL 4:20am break every Thursday Morning.

The music play-list for Ultimate Funk Radio included Funkadelic, Parliament, James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

By early 1999, the phone lines were always lit up, and we could barely break for Station ID.

By the next year, in 1999, there was an article in Billboard Magazine about a new radio music format. The title of the article: Ultimate Funk Radio.

A lot of radio morning show hosts in Seattle listened to Ultimate Funk Radio every Thursday Morning on their way to work.

Ultimate Funk Radio was on in the middle of night Thursday Mornings, right after the Wednesday 360bpm night at The Beat-Box Club on Capital Hill. And after my Friday Night internship at KBSG. I would walk about 4 or 5 blocks to the Beat-box club and hang out on Fridays too. There was no sign for this club, it just had a big old ghetto Blaster in a small window above the main door.

The Beat-Box had great lighting, no windows, it was ages 18 and Up and eventually this place got packed week after week. The girls were sweet, And they really treated me right, Donald Glaude played there regularly. It seemed like the headlining act for whatever party was that weekend, would stop in at the Beat-Box during the same week. Eventually some frozen plumbing pipes burst during the winter, and then it was gone.

Also, the Seattle teenage dance ordinance had an impact on the local music culture, the RCKNDY and the Velvet Elvis both shut down by 2001. The only all-ages club left in Seattle was the Paradox. There were still two small venues on the East Side of Lake Washington. I definitely promoted the jungle, drum n' bass scene from my Funk radio show too, and in return they let me leave flyers for my radio show at the Beat-Box club.

I also blanketed the music stores with card stock flyers for Ultimate Funk Radio. I did have to pay out of pocket much of the time, and for about 30 months I went to either a club or a party three or four times per week.

By mid-1999, I accepted a gig in Spokane, Washington to produce the midday show, host weekend mornings and update the website for Classic Rock 98.9 KKZX. I also landed a once per week gig DJing live events with Complete Music-Spokane.

Eventually the management changed at the radio station, and I moved back to the Seattle Area to learn more about Real Estate and the internet. At the time, 2000, I got bored with radio with it's stagnant commercial music formats, boy bands, and broadcast automation.

Commercial radio would be more appealing to the general public if it didn't have such predictable formats. Some of the more successful radio stations in the country have freed up the format and let dj's play more fresh music.

After that, for year or two, I helped a few friends throw punk rock shows in North Seattle for the fun of it. I remember the owner of Rudy's Barber Shop Seattle showed up a few times. I heard that now he owns The El Corazon Club Seattle.

I also wrote a few music articles for a local college paper, mostly covering the Grammy Foundation and the Vera Project.

After a couple of years working in management, marketing, and consulting for a couple of Real Estate Financial Services companies. I moved on to work as an online marketing business consultant.

By early 2007, I was doing my small part in working with some indie film makers on a feature length documentary on the Electronic Music and Dance Scene. I'm very excited because this is a project that interests me. I love Radical Audio Visual Experiences, I was able to talk up my old friend KJ Sawka to the director of the Indie Film Documentary. This does not necessarily mean that AriSawkaDoria will be in the final cut, and Ultra Digital Films already filmed AriSawkaDoria's concert on Feb 28 2007.

KJ Sawka's side project is the powerhouse band AriSawkaDoria that had signed to the Wax Orchard label last year. Thier debut CD is currently available.

Currently on a National Tour with Blake Lewis, Kevin Sawka is looking forward to an upcoming Spring and Summer Tour with his new Band, ASD or AriSawkaDoria. AriSawkaDoria is made up of guitarist Ari Joshua, Kevin "KJ" Sawka on drums, and Joe Doria on keys. All three of these guys are talented solo artists, and together they are like a freight train. AriSawkaDoria, creates a progressive blend of Jazz, Funk, and Electronic Music.
